We've loved working on your Living Room and to accompany your room design we've included a design narrative below which explains how the concept works as a whole, including some tips- check it out!

Please bear in mind that items can go out of stock quickly, so if you really love certain items it is best to purchase those first. However your shopping list will stay open as long as you like, so you can purchase the key pieces first and then add to them whenever you are ready.

Design Narrative:

When entering your Living Room you will be drawn to the feature fireplace wall. With it's striking herringbone tiling and new painted timber surround it's a 'wow' feature for sure! We have opted to both widen and increase the height of your existing fireplace dimensions to create more of a focal point of the fireplace. Stunning navy herringbone tiling to the back panel adds a contemporary but timeless touch whilst the corresponding black herringbone tiles to the hearth and firebox provide beautiful contrast and functionality as any black soot marks will blend seamlessly with their original colouring. The painted timber surround, constructed by your husband, will be simple in design to allow the tiles to sing within the room. This will be painted in harmony with the rest of the Living Room in Coat Paints, Sweatpants, a warm grey tone that will give the room a contemporary and inviting feel.

We have opted to keep the styling to your fireplace to a minimum as we feel this beautiful feature speaks for itself, but sitting on top of the mantel is your existing TV, allowing you uninterrupted views of your favourite programmes!

Tying in with the feature tiling to the fireplace, a new rich timber herringbone floor runs through your new living room. The varying tones of the timber means it will work well with the existing reclaimed timber floor that runs through the rest of your home whilst the herringbone formation adds interest and helps to zone the space.

To left hand side of the fireplace sits your plush new armchair, upholstered in a captivating Butterscotch velvet. The soft, cosy shape of this armchair is contemporary however the rich mustard velvet is a subtle nod to the mid-century styling found throughout the room. This vignette is finished off with a new slatted timber side table to perch drinks and a plethora of greenery, making it the perfect spot to cosy up by the fire or enjoy the views of your beautiful garden.

We have retained your existing grey curtains as these frame your windows in a subtle manner but have proposed removing the existing pelmets as these add a formality to this room which seems slightly incongruous with the relaxed family space you want to create. Any existing rails could be swapped out for timber poles to echo the existing warm timber tones throughout the room.

Another main feature to the living room is your new incredible velvet corner sofa. Upholstered in a rich navy velvet this sofa is a beauty! It's large dimensions suit your spacious Living Room and offer plenty of space to relax as a family. The low back design of the sofa gives a laid back contemporary look. Adding plenty of cushions in blue, mustard and cream tones adds depth of colour and a splash of texture to the sofa space.

Sitting in front of the sofa is your new sculptural coffee table; a design classic this investment piece is a real talking point within the room! Designed by Isamu Noguchi in 1944 this timeless coffee table features two identical pieces of walnut positioned at a right angle to create support for its beautiful glass top. Although an expensive piece, it is an incredible coffee table that will remain at the heart of your living room for a lifetime. We have allowed for some replicas of the Noguchi table in the alternatives section of the shopping list as these will give you the look at a better price point but please be aware these are a copy and not the original design.

A pair of layered rugs will sit beneath your sofa set up, anchoring the living space and adding texture and comfort underfoot. The distressed geometric rug in a woven finish adds a hint of pattern whilst the oversized jute rug below adds natural textures and an organic feel to the space.

Beside your sofas you will find another new slatted timber side table which serves as a spot to place drinks and also gives a subtle nod to the contemporary panelling found in your hallway. Your gorgeous existing floor lamp adds to the layered lighting scheme and will give a warm, cosy glow in the evening.

Finishing off the sofa vignette is your new feature gallery wall. We have paired your existing pieces of art with new modern prints that add colour and echo the contemporary/subtle mid-century styling throughout your living room.

Finally, to the far right of your living room, set behind your corner sofa is your gorgeous existing West Elm sideboard, its large proportions work beautifully in this location and creates a focal point to this end of the room. Sitting on your sideboard we have positioned an amazing print from Anthropologie alongside a colourful Bauhaus poster. The bold abstract design and generous size of the Anthropologie print demands attention and will draw guests into the room. The navy tones pick up the sofa colour as well as accessories throughout the room. The prints sit alongside a pair of asymmetric table lamps which add to the laid back feel of the space. Either side of this set up sits a trio of floor standing plants including a fantastic Bird of Paradise plant, Kentia Palm and an African Fig. This, alongside the lush greenery found throughout the room, will add life, interest and colour.
